Trailer people … who knew?

Hitting the open road used to be an escape … now it’s a tad stressful. Did I pack enough snacks, outfits, blankets, toys …. so many toys. Nugget does not travel light. Babies require an arsenal of accessories and each item is bigger than the last.

We’ve taken two trips since Nug was born. First we went to Bend, my sanctuary, followed by a quick jaunt to Mt. Saint Helens for Father’s Day. We had a wonderful time on each adventure. Getting out of the house reminded us of our “old selves.” However traveling with a baby is no joke. We kept thinking it would have been easier to stay home. But let’s be honest constantly staying home for the sake of ease sounds beyond depressing. So we started thinking of alternatives … how can we keep the comforts of home while also leaving? A travel trailer!

The revelation led to the question … are we really trailer people? In a previous life we were avid tent campers. We would balk at people in their little portable homes with their TVs, fridges and modern luxuries. We spent many weekends roaming the Pacific Northwest scouting perfect tent sites, sleeping on the ground, roasting marshmallows, unplugging and judging trailer people.

Oh how naïve and critical. I didn’t realize “trailer people” likely had children and a desire to vacation while remaining relatively sane. Who knew one night off the “routine” could cause chaos and misery for an entire week?!?! Seriously who knew … because you never told me … I thought we were friends.

Now we are trailer people and we are proud … Coachella isn’t our future … thank goodness. I want to shower, eat warm food, sleep in a bed and enjoy the little luxuries of home while on the road. So basically I’m old … but I’m cool with it.
