Where’s my Maserati?

When Britney sang “you want a Maserati you better work b*itch,” she did me dirty. I started working when I was 15 and don’t even have a new Mazda. Brit does make a solid point, success requires hard work. But in reality how many of us purchase a $104,000 car? I’m thinking not many.

Since a Maserati is not in my immediate … or longterm future … perhaps working for a passion will have to suffice. Adulting is not conducive to passion … mortgages, car payments, student loan payments … they tie us down. It’s easy to get in the 8-5 grind and forget about fun. When I was working I hoarded vacation days like I was dooms day prepping … and to what purpose? None.

Having a baby forced me to slow down and reprioritize my life. I realized I’d abandoned my passions after college. What happened to making documentaries so riveting that National Geographic would be breaking down the door to hire me? Ok that was always a rather delusional fantasy but wouldn’t that be amazing?

While I wait to be discovered by NG I’ve settled for taking a photography class. Did you know community colleges offer (cheaper) non-credit courses in a variety of topics like photography, cooking, dance and home improvement. I love my weekly class because it holds me accountable. I need the structure and commitment of a course … I get distracted easily … it’s my flaw.

True confession I love school … I would be a professional student if education was affordable … but that’s an entirely different conversation. Today is for fun and photos!

What are your passions and how do your pursue them?
